trickle charger connector
Gentlemen, After having my ’09 SRT covered up in the garage for a month i decided to hook up my old trickle charger The hood light will be on and be drawing current but the charger should overcome that. I’ll probably need to charge it a time, or two, this winter. I don’t know how trickle chargers work on car batteries for a long period of time, but I’ve heard a number of stories of people’s batteries going bad when they left their Harley on one over the winter. I don’t leave mine on my Harley, but hook it up about every month, or two, during the winter. I leave it on just long enough to get it fully charged.

The one I have is for and earlier models. They’ve ordered the correct charger with the alligator clips and I will exchange this for a new one. Lesson learned, I guess. Also, i learned something about leaving mine hooked up. I went out the next day and just jumped in the car and started backing out and heard the charger hit the floor.
Nov 21, · I think you want a Battery Maintainer and not the trickle charger. There is a difference to your batteries. Here; Model 12V Amp I am not sure what you mean by hooking up a charger and block heater to your inlet!!
If we have a maHr battery, we would charge it at 60 ma for 10 to 12 hours. If we had a 60 AHr battery we would charge it at 6 amps for 10 to 12 hours. Needless to say, most lead acid charges are of the “dump-as-much-as-you-can-as-fast-as-you-can” variety. This type of charging is ok for liquid lead acid batteries but not for NiCds or for Gel Cells. While Gel Cells can handle much more recharge current than NiCds they can not handle as much as liquid lead acid. This came about from the fact that a normal lead acid battery charger starts off at six to 10 amps and as the battery becomes charged falls down to the one amp range.
The BT Plus uses micro-processor technology in a four stage charging profile to charge, improve, and float your battery so it is ready when your are. Constant current charging and regulated voltage patterns allow the battery to be recharged fully and safely without the fear of overcharging. It is not only able to charge any volt lead-acid battery, its specially adjusted internal software allows for a slightly lowered voltage level that protects sensitive Gel Cell batteries from the dangers of overcharging.
It is also designed to be easy to use in difficult spaces, to utilize a 4-step charging program and safely function in a fully automatic mode.
Read, understand and follow all instructions for the charger, battery, vehicle and any equipment used near the battery and charger. Study all of the battery manufacturer’s specific precautions while charging and recommended rates of charge.
This vehicle will be in “Storage” mode during the winter. The main battery will be plugged-in the whole winter. Is it possible to attach a trickle-charger to the 12 volt battery so that this can be avoided? If so how can I attach a trickle charger? Where is the 12 volt battery located? Many thanks, Rammohan TeslaTap.
The 12v is charged from the main battery, and if the main battery is kept charged, the 12v should last a long time years. Now it is very possible that the end-of-life for the 12v battery might occur while is it is in storage. I would guess there is a slightly higher chance of that, since no one is monitoring the car for the “battery needs replacement” warning that you would see if driving it regularly and it was failing.

While the features on many car battery chargers can make them both more useful and more difficult to use, the general process for setting up a car battery charger is always the same: Remove the negative battery cable from the negative terminal. Remove the positive battery cable from the positive terminal. Make sure that your charger is not plugged into an electric outlet and that the power switch if applicable is in the off position. Connect the positive cable from the charger to the positive terminal.
Connect the negative charging cable to the negative terminal.

Four I’ve done a lot of reading on here about the various options for maintaining the 12V battery when the Prius is parked for an extended period of time. My Prius Four not IV will be parked pretty regularly for about 5 or 6 days at a time, but probably not longer than a week or two at most on occasion. The most appealing option to me seems to be the small solar panels produced by VW which can sit in the rear window and be wired directly to the 12V battery.
They are cheap, and from my understanding can’t supply enough voltage to over-charge the battery.
Introduction: Timer for Motorcycle/car Battery Trickle Charger. You can also use an Arduino as a programmer if you have one, all you need to do is put it on a breadboard and hook up six wires. Step 1: Drilling the End Pieces. Step 5: Set Up the ATtiny85 Programming Environment.
A solar panel converts sunlight to electrical energy, which in turn is used to charge batteries. Small solar panels are wired direct to a battery with no charge controller. It takes careful planning, the correct components, and often a professional installation to get desired results. Read more about RV Solar technology if you are considering this option. Wind Charging Another alternative charging method is the Wind Charger. Basically a propeller driving an alternator, the wind charger can provide a small supplemental charging current.
Because the propeller is fairly large and must be continually aimed to face into the wind, wind chargers are not common on RVs, but in deserts or in mountain valleys where there are constant winds, they can be a useful RV battery charger supplement. Generators Many motorhomes and some trailers have generators to produce electrical power.
Some campers bring a portable generator with them as well. Some portable generators have an output terminal that provides DC current that can be used for direct battery charging. Many of these units wont provide enough voltage to charge the batteries fully as mentioned above.

When selecting a marine battery charger there are certain things I believe to be important, and the sterling ProCharge Ultra hits most all of these buttons. The ProCharge Ultra is not the only good quality charger out there, but there really are not as many as folks assume there are. Sure some old school ferroresonant chargers will last 30 years, due to very simple technology, but they’ll murder 27 sets of batteries in the process.

As I have no direct experience of your model, somebody should be able to give you some specifics. Some onboard chargers charge the leisure and vehicle batteries automatically and some have an internal switch that does one or the other at one time, depending what position it is in. Some never charge the vehicle battery but yours will I think. Not everyone agrees on this though. I believe there was a recent thread on this subject.
If you do a search, you may come across it. I am a member of a few forums so I might have got the wrong forum.
CHARGING MOTORHOME BATTERIES
It uses a 12 volt car bulb as current regulator and charge status indicator. The brightness of the bulb indicates how much charge is flowing into the battery. When the battery becomes fully charged, lamp turns off. If the lamp is staying on with full brightness for more than 30 minutes, it indicates that the battery is dead and is not accepting charge.
Charging current is obtained from a volt secondary 2 Ampere step down transformer. Diodes D1 and D2 are rectifiers which can handle 3 ampere current.
Jun 26, · I also faced a similar decision about a maintenance charger. My original charger is a vintage without the maintenance mode. After reviewing the limited number of 48v “trickle chargers” out there, I decided to update my cart charger to a new, state of the art, smart charger with a maintenance mode.
Typical charge characteristics of lithium-ion. Adding full saturation at the set voltage boosts the capacity by about 10 percent but adds stress due to high voltage. When the battery is first put on charge, the voltage shoots up quickly. This behavior can be compared to lifting a weight with a rubber band, causing a lag. The capacity will eventually catch up when the battery is almost fully charged Figure 3. This charge characteristic is typical of all batteries. The higher the charge current is, the larger the rubber-band effect will be.
Cold temperatures or charging a cell with high internal resistance amplifies the effect.

Can you use a 6 volt battery charger to charge an 8 volt battery? Not so short answer, it depends on the battery’s chemistry. Also, you want to make sure the charger’s amperage doesn’t exceed the battery’s charging current’s ability or you might overheat the battery and destroy it. In a longer answer, it is possible to convert a 6 – 7 volt supply to volts with a “boost up” converter but that’s either going to require buying the device or making it yourself.
Even if you we’re to do that, you need to make sure the battery’s chemistry’s safe limits aren’t exceeded.

Next A car battery contains chemicals that produce hydrogen gas during use. Hydrogen gas is volatile and has been known to explode under certain conditions, causing serious injuries. For example, a car battery may explode while starting the car, while jump starting or by carelessly shorting the terminals with a screwdriver. In fact, under certain conditions a car battery may explode while just sitting in a parked car or on a table [source:
a trickle charger will not jump start anything, however if it is left connected long enuff, and the battery will take a charge, the mower should start.
Ive done a study of adverts, and read the forums on them, and you have to buy a tender for about a hundred bux to get a good one that does what its sposed to. I use, a small battery charger, and a walmart timer to run the charger for one hour a day, on the very lowest setting. That should be one or two amps at the most. It is critically important to make sure you keep your battery water up to the level its sposed to be.
If its on the charger, there will be some loss of water from charging and it can get too low fairly quickly so you will need to check the water at least once a month. Use only distilled water to refill the battery. You dont need an expensive batt charger either, no more than thirty bux, unless you want one with car sized capacity too, then maybe at most fifty bux. I also suggest that you start your bike up every couple of weeks and let it idle for twenty mins to warm up.
If you can ride it around the driveway, that would be better yet for ten or fifteen mins, even if its too cold to be comfortable. Also, be very certain, that you not use the disc brake prior to parking your bike, if your bike has a rear drum, that is tthe one to use to stop the bike. Disc pads can rust in place when the bike is put into long term storage, and then you will have to fix that prior to spring, so just dont put the bike into storage and use the disc brake to stop it.
If you have disc brakes front and rear, you will need to find some other way to stop the bike, by hand or foot of whatever as you slow to stop for storage.
